SupremeReaction.com Interview With Perennial Skills

Perennial Skills has just dropped there new album called In Between The Lines on mediafire.com and a lot of the fans wants to know who are these guys and how did they come up with this beautiful music. Where did they come from? When I heard the album I thought this was one the best albums I have heard this year. With Sunny Rothmiller on the emceeing tip and with DJ Doleak supplying the beats I thought this was the perfect match. So, I just knew I had to get in contact with these two guys for an interview and they were willing to do so.

My first question which I would like to know and the fans would like to know is: How did this album come about?

DJ Doleak: Well, we have been wanting to do an album like this for a long time. I want to say since 2006, 2007 but we just wanted to know what was the best way to go about it. We scrapped a lot of songs that we thought was going to go on this album. But I am very happy how we executed this Perennial Skills album.

Sunny Rothmiller:  We definitely was on each other heads. Doleak told me to rewrite a lot of verses and I told him to redo a lot of beats. We respected each others criticism and took it in stride. When you have someone you work with you have to be hard on each other because if your not you probably won’t get better.

What was the first song you all recorded?

DJ Doleak: O shit that’s an easy question. The first song we recorded was “Unmatched”. I know during that time I was going through some things and I was getting frustrated the way my beats were coming out the speakers. So, Sunny came through and helped me with that track. I have to say we layed down that beat in an hour or two. Maybe even less.

Sunny Rothmiller: Ya all I could remember was Doleak telling me it takes a couple of days for him to come up with a beat and I was just thinking it should not take you that long to come up with a beat. So, I came through the studio and helped him put the track together. Once the beat was layed down then that’s when I came up with the lyrics. Then Doleak put the scratches in there later.

For the video “Unmatched” what type of feel were you all going for?

DJ Doleak: I wanted to do something that was just straight hip hop. I mean the video that we did for that was exactly how we was grinding in the studio. I mean we would be planning and plotting for hours.

Sunny Rothmiller: Ya we have been doing that for years. I mean working hard is nothing new to us. We always knew that when we came together and collaborated on some shit that it was going to be some dope shit.

Was there a certain formula in the way you all would do a song?

DJ Doleak: No not at all.  Sometimes Sunny would come with a concept that he already has for a song and tell me what type of beat he wants with it. Or sometimes I would have a beat made with the scratches already made and I would tell him a subject I would like for him to write about.

Any chances you all going on tour and performing these songs live?

Sunny Rothmiller: Most definitely we would like to do that. We are planning to do some shows to promote the album with a couple of other things we have in mind on promoting the album. We plan on going full steam ahead with this album.

DJ Doleak: Yes, touring is a must for us.

Any shout outs you would like to give before we leave?

DJ Doleak: First and foremost I want to thank God. I also want to thank my mom and dad and  everyone who helped us with this album. So, many people to name.

Sunny Rothmiller: For this album I want to give a shout out to Remshot, Shy But Flyy, and Gundro for blessing the mic. Also I want to give a shout out to Geoh, LND, Chris Walker, Mitch Lemos, and to my brother DJ Equis. Peace World.
